IRAE

IRAE is a black metal band from Portugal, founded in Lisbon in the autumn of 2002 by multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Vulturius. Deeply inspired by the second wave of black metal from the early '90s, IRAE quickly became a central figure in the Portuguese underground metal scene.

Driven by a commitment to traditional, uncompromising black metal aesthetics, IRAE stands out for its lo-fi production, cold atmosphere, and Satanic lyrical themes, remaining faithful to the genre’s primal roots.
Vulturius formed IRAE as a solo project, releasing early demos like Spreading the Wrath of Satan from his own bedroom, using analog equipment and a DIY ethic. These early works captured the rawness and aggression typical of the genre's early years and earned the project recognition in the underground circuit.

Musically, IRAE blends primitive riffing, relentless drumming, and harsh vocals, delivering cold desolation and spiritual rebellion. The lyrics often revolve around Satanism, anti-religion, occultism, and death.

IRAE is a bastion of orthodox black metal in Southern Europe. With more than 20 years of unwavering devotion to the craft, Vulturius continues to carry the torch of hateful, and spiritual black metal. For those who crave the essence of the genre, bleak soundscapes, harsh vocals, and a resolute anti-mainstream attitude, IRAE remains a force to be reckoned with.
